Coco before Chanel-- Movie Review

Hey there :)

I saw this movie a couple weeks ago, but spring break's been terribly, wonderfully busy! However, this was just such a fantastic movie I couldn't let this post slip my mind!

Caution: Morally, it's not such a great movie. Coco reveals her belief that it is "better to be a mistress than a wife." This statement sums up all the sketchy-ness succinctly. Yay alliterations--the sign of an overtired mind.

Back to the point, what I loved about this movie was Coco Chanel's story. Her guts, and her counter cultural style. She was the first android in a time when women wore corsets, dresses, jewels, and outlandish hats. A world without Chanel, for the modern female, would be a world without suits, pants, comfy shirts, comfy clothes in general... and elegance. Not only this, but without Coco's early steps, we couldn't have moved on to jeans, leather, tennis shoes, or anything remotely resembling punk, sporty, or masculine.

So it's important to know the story of this woman who has empowered the other half of humanity to be independent and intelligent.
